Randolph
give the guy a hand. Many on here we're writing him off before he had a chance.

L'Arse,

someone actually typed that.

The stats are impressive .
But there has been nothing outstanding from him so far.
Manc will be a Test.

I certainly wish him well

Re: Randolph
I put my hands up and admit I was dreading Randolph playing - especially that stat of conceding a quadrillion goals against Bournemouth in thirty seconds.

But the boy's done well.

Re: Randolph
How many were pissing themselves that we needed better cover for Adrian ?

Randolph is solid and is proving it too.

Randolph for me against City.

And Adrian in the League Cup.

Whoever plays best gets the jersey for the next game.

Sends the message that only today's performances count, not who was best in the past.

Randolph keeps the shirt for me just as Tomkins did even when Jenkinson became available again.

Must say that I thought Obiang was a little unlucky to be benched last night but tactically we needed more width at home and Moses made a big difference.

Saturday is an interesting dilemma for Bilic. Does he go with the extra defensive man in midfield we used against L'Arse and Pool or stick with 2 wide men to give better outlets and teh ability to break as we did last night?

I suspect Obiang will come back in and Lanzini will make way but we shall see.

Chose a squad that is most likely to beat the opposition.

Play your best players or play the ones in best form?

Latter for me

Re: Randolph

Why would you not pick your no 1 goalkeeper? Play your best players. Adrian is better than Randolph.

Because as it stands, were doing well with Randolph in goal, there is no need to change it. By keeping Randolph in, this forces Adrian into having to perfom even better in training.

This will bring out the best in both of them. And that is exactly how it should be..

Re: Randolph
By going for an equaliser he ends up getting a 3 match ban, nice one. How often is it that when a goal keeper goes up it amounts to anything, on the rare occasion.

We need have two goalkeepers who want to be number 1.

Re: Randolph

Randolph was brought in as no.2, I'm sure he knew that.

He was brought in for just this eventuality so why should our no.1 not go straight back in?

If we just drop Randolph now, then where is the motivation for him do really well? We want it that players are fighting for positions.

If Adrian is put in now, then that will lead to him being complacent, as he knows come rain or shine, he'll be number 1 no matter what. I really like Adrian, but at this level you must have tough & fair competition.

If Randolph is now dropped then he should have the arsehole - and we should want him to have the arsehole, because that means he wants to be number 1. W

Not read the thread because I'm a lazy bloke.

Anyway, my two penneth:

Don't ever drop form players. He's been solid since he came in and two of our three wins he's been in goal. Adrian and now Ogbonna need to earn their places in the team.

Yeah... desperately trying to grab a last minute equaliser... how dare he!

Re: Randolph
Two points about that.

Would you say the same about Payet if he got sent off or injured?

Secondly, Adrian's red card wasn't particularly stupid. It was more a clumsy albeit genuine attempt to win the ball.

SullyHammer 4:45 Tue Sep 15
Re: Randolph
I think Randolph deserves to hold his place in the starting line up. Bilic needs to let the players know that no-one is guaranteed to walk straight into the side. Remember it was Adrian's own stupidity as to why he got sent off in the first place, so a few games more on the bench will make him think a bit about that.

El Scorchio 4:42 Tue Sep 15
Re: Randolph
Exactly.

The main thing now is I think we're all much more sure he can be relied on if Adrian can't play.

He looks miles better now than when I watched him in the first couple of Europa qualifiers.

As others have said, Randolph has earned the right to play in the cup games.

I'd be shocked if Adrian doesn't start against City (notwithstanding fictitious tennis related shoulder injuries...)

Randolph has given himself a great shout to keep goal in cup matches though.

Re: Randolph
I'd be inclined to stick with Randolph. The defences confidence is high at the moment.

Also, by keeping Randolph in (no pun intended) ;-), it will let Adrian know that he has a fight on his hands...that can only be a good thing..
